Anyone can print a Sanskrit name on a label. The difference is whether the powder inside matches it, batch after batch, and whether you can prove it.
Est. 1998
In 1998 we were a two-room dispensary in Haridwar making Triphala for a handful of local physicians. One winter a supplier sent us Haritaki that had been cut with a cheaper fruit. We did not catch it. Our customers did.
That batch cost us six months of trust and taught us the only lesson that has mattered since: in herbal medicine, the supply chain is the product. Everything we have built — the named farms, the intake testing, the retained samples — exists because of a mistake we refuse to repeat.
Today we make 140 formulations in a Schedule-T certified facility. The dispensary is still there. So is the physician who first told us the Triphala was wrong.
“I am not interested in whether a herb is ancient. I am interested in whether this jar, from this week, contains what the label says. That is a laboratory question, and Ayurveda is better off for asking it.”
The classical texts specify which part of the plant, harvested in which season, prepared in which medium. They are remarkably precise about process and silent about verification — they were written before verification existed.
So we follow the Ayurvedic Formulary of India for the formulation, and HPLC, TLC and atomic absorption for the proof. Neither replaces the other. The tradition tells us what to make; the instruments tell us whether we made it.
